DIVING FOR PEARLS Rock Candy CANDY022 (2006)

Diving For Pearls

Late 80s melodic hard rock form North America, and better than the hair metal it sat so well next to. Heavier than Bon Jovi, less commercial (just) than the period Whitesnake, the album initially sold well. Of the better known bands of the era, think White Lion et al. The music is melodic, hard and well produced.

Bar the odd acoustic intro, there’s more melody in the guitar than the guitars, with a few neat breaks. Great rhythms too, at the heavy end of AOR.

'Never On Monday' is an uptempo classic, unless you’re a thrash snob I guarantee it’ll have you nodding.

Sadly it was part of a scene that succumbed to the grunge fad a year or two later.

Well packaged with five bonus tracks.

***½
