2005 reformation of glam metallers...
Back in the late '80's Texan band Dangerous Toys delivered a healthy balance of hard rock and sleaze and released 4 albums before splitting up in the late '90's. Imagine a blend of AC/DC, Motley Crue and early Guns n Roses and the resulting sound will give you some idea what to expect from Dangerous Toys.
In 2005 the band reformed for a one-off gig celebrating their 20th anniversary, this took place in their hometown of Austin, and it is hard to believe that the band has not played together for the best part of a decade.
The DVD actually feels like a gig, unlike some live releases the sound is not overly polished and there are no signs of studio overdubbing - this adds to the raw energy of the bands 90 minute set.
Frontman Jason McMaster's vocals have not suffered the ravages of time, they are as spot on as they were back in 1989, and the same can be said for the rest of the bands performance - it actually makes you wonder if there is another album in the band.
The set itself covers all four albums released by the band and highlights include 'Bones In The Gutter', 'Demon Bell' (from the soundtrack to the film 'Shocker'), 'Take Me Drunk', 'Gunfighter' and 'Paintrain'- if you like the band, you are gonna like the DVD. There is also an audio disc of the gig - although you need to download bonus tracks in order to get the whole show.
Long-time Dangerous Toys fans will be pleased to hear that there is an unreleased track from 1992, 'Shot To Hell', over the opening and closing credits.
As I have said, fans of the band will love this anniversary celebration- and deep down will probably hope for more to come.
