VADER ‘The Art Of War EP’ Regain Records (2005)

Vader

I don't know whether I was right to have reacted this way, but I was really surprised when I came across the brand new release from Vader. It is true that it has been a whole year since the Polish Deathsters released their last studio album "The Beast", but I assumed that their extensive European tour alongside Rotting Christ and Lost Soul, as well as the termination of their contract with Metal Blade would deprive them from releasing anything in 2005...I should have known better!

During this past year, the band found enough time to mourn the death of their ex-drummer (Doc - RIP), sign a new contract with the Swedish label Regain Records, but, most importantly, prepare the four new compositions and two intros, that are featured in their 2005 EP release "The Art Of War".

I was not particularly pleased by the futuristic album cover that the band chose for this release, and I am certain that most of their loyal fans will feel the same, but it was only after I saw the video for "This is The War", that things started to fall into place! The visual representation for this Slayeric Death Metal onslaught is a mixture between War of the Worlds and Terminator 3, and fits this three-minute composition like a glove! This is a sign that Regain Records is more than willing to invest in the band, and that alone should please everyone.

Just as with their previous effort, "The Art Of War", is not only about fast riffs and double bass drumming! Mauser's guitars sound less "threatening" in "Lead Us", and even Daray fell into the same trap, when he was asked to provide the ideal background for the Bolt Thrower-sounding "What Colour is Your Blood". Just in case you were getting slightly concerned that Vader have softened, Peter and Co assigned the duties of closing this fifteen-minute EP to another brutal composition entitled "Death in Silence".

In fifteen minutes, Vader have managed to send a very powerful message to their friends throughout the world: the band is still thirsty for Death Metal, and with the support of a big label, they will continue serving Death Metal with the same passion and determination as they have been for the last twenty years. Are you looking forward to their new album? So am I!
