REVELATION THEORY 6 track promo (2004)
I am not the biggest fan of Grunge music...no, let me rephrase that, I loathe that kind of music! Even though I consider myself to be quite an open-minded person, I never understood the purpose for having Grunge music around. Most of the times you had a bunch of young and untalented "musicians" who shamelessly copied most of the riffs that Sex Pistols and the Dead Kennedys ever wrote and still managed to sound completely awful. Relevation Theory is a band that combines all the elements of Grunge and Alternative music, but not as we heard them during the 90’s!
I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by quality of all six compositions of this promotional CD. The guitars sound great, the voice is extremely expressive, the drums smartly played and as for the bass guitar...I need to meet this guy in order to shake his hand!
Relevation Theory is an oasis in the very hot and unfriendly desert called Grunge/alternative music. I loved "Deep Six" from the very first moment I heard it. Strong heavy guitars, unbelievable bass lines and most of all great vocal lines that made me hum even before I went to sleep. "Full Circle" is the one song the band wrote that comes close to the typical 90’s grungy sound, but still it sounds ten times more sophisticated.
One of the most emotional songs of the album is "Fade" with its beautiful bass intro. Songs like this are not products of commercialism, but the results of the need to express true feelings. I really enjoyed the nice groovy riffs of "Save Yourself" and the beautiful melodies of "All I Have", but the most pleasant surprise came with "Far From Home", the last song of the album. There are no words to express what I felt while listening to this song, but I’m pretty sure that my CD player will be sick and tired of playing it all the time.
I never thought that I could enjoy such an album, but Revelation Theory proved to me that I can. All I can do is to wish them success and hope that they’ll release an album soon, so I can get my hands on it!
