Shadows Fall have stormed into the Billboard Top 200 at number 20.

"The War Within", was released by Century Media on September 20th and its first week of sales have surpassed all expectation.

This huge accomplishment for Massachusetts' metal heroes comes after almost a decade of relentless touring, four studio albums and an undying work ethic.

Shadows Fall's ever-growing legion of UK fans have been treated to several unforgettable appearances including a main stage slot at last year's Download festival, a show-stealing set at the Kerrang! Weekender, opening Metal Hammer's inaugural awards - at which they won the award for "Best Underground Band" - and a triumphant slot on the recent, hugely acclaimed New Wave Of American Heavy Metal Tour with Killswitch Engage, Chimaira and labelmates God Forbid.

Stateside, Shadows Fall were heralded as the breakthrough band of last year's Ozzfest after becoming the highest selling second stage act with their last album, 2001's "The Art Of Balance". Subsequent appearances on the Take Action Tour with Poison The Well and a co-headlining slot on the Headbanger's Ball Tour with Killswitch Engage and Lamb Of God cemented Shadows Fall's reputation as the band who would bring metalcore to the masses.

Now, with re-orders for their stunning new offering "The War Within" flying in, Shadows Fall are enjoying their well-deserved success.

Produced by Zeuss (Hatebreed) and featuring 10 tracks of sonic devastation, the first pressing of the disc is limited to 150,000 embossed Digipak copies and is packaged with a bonus DVD featuring a video for "Stepping Outside the Circle" from "The Art of Balance", two live videos, guitar lessons with Matt Bachand and Jon Donais, a drum lesson with Jason Bittner and a Century Media sampler.

About to embark on a US tour with Damageplan and The Haunted, Shadows Fall look forward to laying waste to the UK in early 2005...watch this space!

ARCH ENEMY EP release

ARCH ENEMY are to release the "Dead Eyes See No Future" EP on November 15th.

The eight track offering conststs of the title song, taken from their stunning album "Anthems of Rebellion", three live tracks recorded in Paris earlier this year, three cover versions and the video of "We Will Rise".

Guitarist Michael Amott says: "The decision to make this EP started to come about after we played a particularly intense sold-out show at the Elysee Montmartre in Paris in April, which we were taping. Most of the recording came out sounding great, so we thought we should give you guys the chance to own a slice of prime live Enemy, especially for all the people who haven't seen us play yet!! The inimitable Andy Sneap was on hand to do the actual live recording, and he also mixed the whole EP at his studio (where we did all the sessions for “Anthems...”).

The cover songs on the EP - we had a real blast working out our take on these classic metal tunes, especially the Carcass song... I was expecting to find it kind of strange to play it with the Arch Enemy guys, but I have to say they made an amazing job of it - in my not-so-humble opinion!! Being a huge fan of Megadeth, I must admit it’s a tough task to better the original there…we just did a very, very heavy version of the song. The Manowar track turned out unexpectedly brutal, this was always a favourite song of mine from my early “heavy metal daze”!

I love the speed and intensity of this song – it sounds very Arch Enemy with lots of guitar shredding! So a fairly spur-of-the-moment idea actually turned into something good enough to let you guys get your teeth into it - enjoy!!"

The full tracklist is:

1. Dead Eyes See No Future (Album Version) 2. Burning Angel (Live in Paris 2004) 3. We Will Rise (Live in Paris 2004) 4. Heart Of Darkness (Live in Paris 2004) 5. Symphony Of Destruction (Megadeth Cover) 6. Kill With Power (Manowar Cover) 7. Incarnated Solvent Abuse (Carcass Cover) + We Will Rise (Video Clip Enhancement)

CROWBAR SIGN TO CANDLELIGHT

Candlelight Records have announced the worldwide signing of New Orleans' Crowbar. The band's addition further strengthens the label's already formidable roster, including 1349, Zyklon, Khold and the home to Emperor and early Opeth catalog.

Life's Blood For The Downtrodden, the band's label debut, is expected to see a February, 2005 Worldwide release date. Final studio work on the album produced by the working team of Warren Riker (Down) and Rex Brown (Pantera), is planned in Miami August 14-September 1. Upon completion it will be the band's first studio album in over three years.

Founded in 1989, Crowbar from the onset found an immediate fanbase that today continues to grow. The band released their debut, Obedience Through Suffering, in 1992. The album would be followed a year later with the highly regarded, Phillip Anselmo-produced Crowbar. The album has sold over 100,000 copies to date. Additional albums, Broken Glass, Time Heals Nothing, Odd Fellows Rest, Equilibrium, and 2001's Sonic Excess in its Purest Form, would be supported by worldwide tours, both headline and in support of Pantera, Black Label Society, Napalm Death, Paradise Lost and others. Windstein with original bassist Todd Strange, in addition to Crowbar, served time in Down - the band project by Anselmo and Corrosion of Conformity's Pepper Keenan.

Crowbar recently completed a 11-date European tour, including a performance at Germany's With Full Force Festival and Pressure Fest. The band currently features founder, vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, bassist Patrick Bruders, guitarist Steve Gibb and drummer Tommy Buckley.

Candlelight Records, with offices headquarted in London, and US Offices in Philadelphia distributed exclusively in the Us by Caroline Distribution; in Canada by PHD Canada; throughout the rest of the world by Plastichead Music Distribution.

New Darkthrone album in September; Nocturno Culto guests at Wacken

Darkthrone, as a compact ensemble, has not graced a stage since 1996. With brand new album, 'Sardonic Wrath' ready for next month's release, Darkthrone's Nocturno Culto make a special appearance at Wacken this Saturday, joining Satyricon for an unprecedented half hour showcase of Darkthrone classics.

"Four years in a row, Wacken asked us to headline," comments Nocturno Culto. "And four years in a row, we have turned their request down. It would have been too much for me and Fenriz to get a whole band together for one gig. The joint show with Satyricon is a more accessible format so we finally accepted. Plus, Wacken is a good festival and well organised. This would be a great opportunity to perform to a large audience and spread hatred for the human kind, especially the religious ones."

Darkthrone's new album, 'Sardonic Wrath' is out on September 6th.

Earache announce the signing of notorious antisocial scumsters MISTRESS

Having festered and thrived in the midst of the grimy UK grind/hardcore scene during the last few years, the band have contaminated all who they have come into contact with via a heady mixture of alcoholic inebriation, bluntly opinionated confrontation and basic feral violence.

Formed in Birmingham during 1999, Mistress have released two albums to date - 'Mistress' and 'The Chronovisor' - to rave reviews and have gigged with the likes of Napalm Death, Mayhem, Electric Wizard, Bolt Thrower and Extreme Noise Terror. Their hard-to-pin-down sound comes across as a sickening sludge/grind/doom hybrid, reminsicent of the early UK grind scene of the late 80's and early 90's, and has been described as 'a vile musical bastard, a bilious, screaming, snot-faced sludge orphan with all the taste and decorum of a sexual encounter in Wormwood Scrubbs'.

The band's refreshingly gritty approach to extreme sounds brought them to attention of Earache, whose label manager Dan Tobin comments; 'Mistress represent a lot of what the extreme music scene is lacking these days; hunger, depravity, filth, honesty, grim reality, pain, suffering and a sick appreciation for the bizarre. After breathing in the stench, we became intoxicated by their vile aura.'

Commenting on their new union, Mistress' Dave C*** enthused; 'Mistress are both drunk with joy and just plain drunk over our signing with Earache.

Mistress have ourselves been fans of various bands on the label since the early MOSH days and now it's great to join the list of acts associated with the Earache stable in our own right. So raise a glass/dirty needle/cup of urine, here's to the next album of filth - this time with Earache written on it!'

Plans are now in the pipeline for the forthcoming release of new Mistress album 'In Disgust We Trust' via Earache in early 2005. A split 7" with Napalm Death/Melvins/Brutal Truth side project Venomous Concept is also planned.

CULT OF LUNA - ANNOUNCE DETAILS OF BRAND NEW ALBUM AND TOUR

Cult Of Luna have confirmed that the bands brand new album is entitled 'Salvation'. This, the bands third album, follows on from the universally critically acclaimed 'The Beyond', and is due to be released on Monday 4th October 2004.

Recorded again at the famous Tonteknik Studios, in Sweden and produced by Magnus Lindberg, the album is described by guitarist Johannes Persson as "a natural progression for the band, but we hope it will appeal to a much broader audience than the previous two releases, as the tracks are much more melody-based, having Anders in the band has allowed us to use fewer samples this time and has meant our musical skills have improved immensely so we can push our music forward!"

Persson continues; "Salvation is definitely a heavy album, but we have learnt that you don't need 100 guitars to be heavy, we've been much more diverse in our use of sounds, they have more depth this time - fewer walls of sound and more soundscapes!

In keeping with Cult of Luna tradition 'Salvation' will not be a short affair, as Persson explains that "one problem we have is that we have one song to many! You can only fit 74 minutes on a CD so we're having to cut one song off!"

Cult Of Luna have also confirmed that they will be touring the UK in October in support of their brand new album 'Salvation' (released on Monday 4th October 2004)

Umea's noisecore outfit have previously toured the UK with Isis, Poison The Well and Dillinger Escape Plan but this will be the band's first headling tour of the UK.
