PROFANE The Day We Scorched The Sky Gizeh Records (2006)
The Day We Scorched The Sun is the debut album from UK metallers, Profane.
I use the term, 'metallers' with some reservation...
One the surface, the opener, 'Porcelain', could be your typical Kerrang generation angry modern metal band. You know the formula: low detuned guitars, shouting vocals that bear no melody or direction. BUT, it didn't take long for my initial opinion to change. It seems that Profane have a bit more going for them, than the above mentioned.
The blazing titles track is a collage of all those modern metal bands, add to that Profane's own stamp, some very catchy melodies and it just about sums up this very promising debut.
It seems that Profane also have a few musical chops and show throughout the album, that they are no slouches when it comes to throwing in a few bars of 'widly didly' with progressive overtones.
My one and only gripe is... yes, you guessed it - the vocals. A little more variety and less shouting would have made 'The Day We Scorched The Sun' an absolute killer for these ears.
