PANIK ‘A Page Torn’ (Escape Music ESM100)(2004)

Escape Music reach a milestone with this their 100th release and it has to be said they are responsible for some of the best new and re-released melodic rock releases of the past few years. Here they go with a new band, a brave move as they could have easily made the 100th release some big re-release (I had my money on the Creek re-releases!) - more power to them!

Anyway, Panik hail from Canada and consist of Rick Legacy (vocals/guitar), Angelo Cimino (guitar), Brian Hamilton (drums) and Mark Piraino (bass). Fans of fellow Canadians Nickelback will like the sounds on here, check out ‘Find A Way’ with its glorious guitar solo or opener ‘Crush’, a snappy three minute modern melodic rock tune. Panik do mellow tunes with aplomb as well - check out ‘Die For You’ or the string backed ‘Fly’. Nod to one of the band’s influences in the cover of Judas Priest’s ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Coming’ - with Rick Legacy aping the mighty Rob Halford with style, much more sincere then ‘Ripper’ Owens. Maybe not essential but great fun!

Like Miles Above, Escape are trying to break quality modern rock acts who have a healthy ear for melodies and are steeped in classic rock influences like AC/DC, Pearl Jam and Bryan Adams. Big sound production and an album worthy of adding to your collection.
