KINGSIZE BLUES PROMO (SELF-FINANCED 2003)

Kingsize Blues Kingsize Blues - what a weird name for a band! That was probably the very first thing that came to my mind when my friend Paul Logue mentioned their name to me. At that specific point I had no idea that what I was dealing with was a band of five musicians whose common goal is to bring people to their knees with their aggressive Metal assault.

That strange choice for a name is definitely not going to give you an idea of what this band is all about. Influenced by The Haunted and with respect to the Deathcore Scene whose headquarters lie on the other side of the Atlantic (Hatebreed), Kingsize Blues have recorded this three-track promo that I’m now holding in my hands.

I am really pleased to see that the times when bands were recording demos without any respect toward their audience and most importantly themselves are long gone.

The three tracks that are featured on this CD may not be the most original or the best composed songs that you have ever listened to in your life, but they are enough to prove that Kingsize Blues have nothing to envy from many bands that are out there with contracts in their hands, recording albums as we speak.

I was quite surprised by the acoustic guitar intro of "Blind Faith", but that was nothing compared to what I felt when the quite catchy groovy guitar riff decided to present itself soon after. The vocals will remind you of those of Peter Dolving’s and that is obviously a compliment.

The second track of the promo, "Soul Destroying Sickness" has a catchier tune than the opener, but this time the vocals are becoming harder in parts and the final result sounds better prepared and conceived. As for the last track of the promo, "Blood", there are some good ideas hidden there, but there is something about the general arrangements of the song that does not allow it to show its full potential.

The five members of this band have every reason to be proud of this release. The sound is quite good for a self-financed promo and all three compositions will hopefully raise the interest of the record labels towards the band. Let’s see what they come up with next!
