HAPPY FACE Le Tigre Anticulture (2006)

Happy Face

My work colleagues give me strange looks when I play any kind of heavy music that isn't what they are used to hearing, and call it noise.

Then there is metal that is borderline noise, Happyface are more than borderline, they are an actual noise that, sometimes defines any kind of description that I can think of.

Hardcore, perhaps, nu-metal, maybe, death metal, yes.

I can't make out any kind of melody at all most of the songs on Happyface's first full length debut album.

Yes, I like death, black, anything that is noisey, BUT, there has to be some melody, somewhere to make this kind of music enjoyable. I can't find anything on offer here.

There is nothing what I would call a song to be found, some heavy down tuned guitars, fast drums and the worst excuse I have ever heard for a 'singer'.

The singer sounds like he has been strangled and is falling to his death, after being thrown off a very tall building. Some of the noises that come from his mouth cannot be human.

How a band as bad as this got a deal is beyond my comprehension.

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
