VARIOUS 'Empire Thunder A NWoBHM Collection'
Majestic Rock MAJCD085 (2005)

A rather strange compilation this. Majestic have done a fine job with some excellent (and quite poor too) NWoBHM releases, and this takes a track from some of the related releases in the name of Tommy Vance, the legendary DJ who supported the era and who died recently.

Opener 'Cold Bitch' (Tytan), featuring drummer Dave Dufort, is an excellent track and one of the best here, solid, sound and with some great guitar work.

Quartz, Chariot, Shiva and Heavy Pettin’ (a tenuous NWoBHM link) are just as good and all demand checking out. But tracks by Medusa and Bitches Sin are from demo collections, less relevant and, quite frankly, quite poor.

But with Tobruk and Blind Fury it’s a good Majestic label sampler that is worth a listen but rather misguided. Any fan with any sense should have some of the individual CDs anyway.
