DECAPITATED Organic Hallucinosis
Earache (2006)

Decapitated

It was exactly two years ago that I was first introduced to Decapitated, and I can still remember the very good impression that they have made to me, especially after having listened to their latest (at the time) studio album "Negation". It seems, though, that I was not the only one who recognised the true potential of this band: "Negation" was the release that launched the status of these young Poles at the very top of the list of extreme Death Metal bands, and their live performances with Rotting Christ and Thus Defiled brought numerous new fans to their ranks.

The short interview that I did with Martin (the band's bassist) back in 2004 left me with the impression that Decapitated were not destined to become one of those young bands that come out with a huge bang and them slowly fall into oblivion, so to me, the release of their next studio album would prove whether my instincts were telling me the truth - and so it did!

If what you really admire in Decapitated is their ability to add beautifully constructed technical and melodic parts in their brutal and passionate Death Metal, then "Organic Hallucinosis" is the right album for you. Following the same musical direction as "Negation", but with a slightly better sound and with compositions that sound more mature and well thought through, Decapitated have managed to create another album of really high standards.

One thing that needs to be mentioned about "Organic Hallucinosis", is that it is not the kind of album that is willing to reveal its "secrets" straight away. It may be that the catchy tunes of "Day 69" the massive riffs of "Visual Delusion" or the chaotic drumming and the solo of "Invisible Control" are the only things that you will manage to single out after your introduction to this thirty two minute release, but a few more spins will help you decrypt its complicated musical structures and have a better understanding of the special nature of this album.

The introduction of Covan behind the microphone has given a new dimension to the band's style and his Barney-sounding vocals, together with Vittek's (drums) brilliant performance throughout the album will leave you with the best of impressions.

I am really not impressed by bands who think that their music will sound more sophisticated by adding three hundred different riffs to one song. Technical playing requires skill and talent, both of which can be found within the ranks of Decapitated. To me, "Organic Hallucinosis" is another big step in the right direction, so what is left to see is what this band is going to come up with next!
