THE CARL VERHEYEN BAND Take One Step
Provogue PRD7205-2 (2006)

New album from guitarist/vocalist Carl Verheyen, smooth pop rock vocals over jazzy rhythms and guitar that mixes fusion with smooth enjoyable rock touches.

In places it works, the searing guitar solos are excellent, and in others it doesn’t work so well.

The rock nods in 'The Code' are excellent. There’s some acoustic moments on the album too, which do tend to drift.

A little too captivating to be MOR, it’s a well produced, just not quite captivating enough.

And the booklet kindly tells us that over 25 guitars were used in the making in the album.

**½
