COLIN BLUNSTONE/ROD ARGENT
'Live At The Bloomsbury Theatre'
Red House REDHCD4 (2CD)

The original and legendary Zombies vocalist and pianist are back together, and judging by this CD they’re back on form too.

The Zombies was a long time ago, yet both parties have had long, varied and influential careers since.

Kicking off with 'Andorra' and 'This Will Be Our Year', we get some great rock/pop with a bright and breezy sound and 60s and 70s tinges. No bad thing, it’s not too heavy in either sound or attitude and it’s thoroughly enjoyable and there are some decent rock’n’roll moments mixed in. Colin has lost none of his voice or range, and Rod’s keyboards lead proceedings from the start.

Material from over the years is aired, including individual solo efforts; many will recognise Argent’s 'Hold Your Head Up' (a minor hit for Uriah Heep) and 'God Gave Rock’n’Roll To You' (a big hit for Kiss). Here them here as originally intended.

A string quartet and excellent production make for a solid sound, and guitarist Keith Airey (Don Airey’s brother) does an excellent job too.
