Wilko Johnson & Wreckless Eric

Friday 6th October

Emerging form the deepest, darkest, corner of Essex, the pioneering guitarist Wilko Johnson will always be remembered as founding guitarist and songwriter with Dr Feelgood. Johnson developed his own unique style, coupling an erratic guitar style and jerky movements with a novel dress sense sporting his classic black suit and a 'pudding bowl' haircut. After leaving the Feelgoods and a memorable stint playing with Ian Dury and The Blockheads, Wilko moved on to greener pastures, founding his own bands as is currently joined by Blockhead bassist Norman Watt-Roy and drummer Monti (ex-Blockheads, ex-Curve).

The band today continues to perform their typically angular British Rhythm and Blues all across Europe. Firm favourites of the late John Peel the Wilko Johnson circus will be rolling into town of the 6th October, so roll up roll up and come enjoy the carnival.

Wreckless Eric first found fame in the mid-1970s, when he signed to the emergent Stiff Records with label-mates Ian Dury, Madness, Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe. For a while, Ian Dury played drums in his band. Since leaving Stiff in 1981, Eric has continued to work as a musician, songwriter and recording artist, and now has 14 albums to his credit. His songs have been recorded by artists as diverse as The Monkees, Lightning Seeds and Cliff Richard. He has recently written a book about himself, 'A Dysfunctional Success' (The Do-Not Press) and has a new album released on the Southern Domestic label, BUNGALOW HI.

This one off double bill of Wilko Johnson and Wreckless Eric is sure to be a Rock 'n' Roll double whammy that will not disappoint, so get yourselves down to the 100 club on 6th October.

Eddie & The Hot Rods + Eddie Tudor-Pole + The Wild Uncles

Saturday 14th October

Eddie and the Hot Rods began life in 1976, when four teenagers from Southend on Sea got together and, playing their own style of fast energetic rock and roll/R&B, emerged to international success through the burgeoning London pub rock scene. They were soon on the cover of both the NME and Melody Maker and signed up by Island Records, going on to have three hit albums and four top forty UK singles including the much-played punk/R&B anthem, 'Do Anything You Wanna Do'. Still fronted by legendary singer Barrie Masters, 2006 sees the release of the Rods' first concert DVD, as well as a brand new studio album, 'Been There, Done That...'. They continue to tour - this year they are booked to play in France, Italy, Norway, Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, USA and Japan, as well as the 100 Club, of course.

Look out world The Rods are back!!!!!!

RADA trained Edward Tudor Pole briefly joined the Sex Pistols as a replacement for Johnny Rotten before fronting his own band Ed TenPole Tudor, with whom he had hits with 'Who killed Bambi?', '3 Bells in a Row', 'Swords of 1000 Men', 'Wunderbar' and 'Throwing my baby out with the Bath Water'. Probably best known for his appearances in 'The Crystal Maze' and on Top of The Pops, Ed has appeared in numerous films and plays, including The Rocky Horror Show, The Great Rock and Roll Swindle with The Sex Pistols, White Hunter, Black Heart with Clint Eastwood and more recently as Mr. Borgin in Harry Potter II. He also appeared in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers in which he plays Spike Milligan.

His acoustic show has to be seen to be believed. Ageing punks and new fans attracted by his TV and film roles are treated to a mix of punk, country and pure rock'n'roll. Each of his catchy tunes pays tribute to a variety of stars. Standard punk anthems stand side by side with influences as diverse as Status Quo, Freddie Mercury, Tammy Wynette and Shakin' Stevens.

The Wild Uncles feature some well-known names from London's music scene playing anthems of pub rock from the likes of Dr Feelgood, Elvis Costello and Ian Dury.

Chas & Dave

Saturday 21st October

The vicarious social commentary supplied by the north London Geezers Chas & Dave has continued to intrigue and delight the U.K for over a quarter of a century. In the tradition of The Kinks and the Small Faces and around the same time as the same time as Ian Dury and Squeeze, Chas & Dave wrote and recorded exceptionally witty songs about life in London, performed with a strong affection for all things English reminiscent.

Chas & Dave are suddenly cool again: The Libertines professed their adoration, and they went down a storm at the last Glastonbury Festival. They even popped up in the 2005 Catherine Tate Christmas Special on BBC2! Now, for the very first time, Chas & Dave (together with longtime drummer Micky Birt) perform in the intimate surroundings of Narberth's Queens Hall. Expect all the favourites and more: from London Girls to Gertcha, The Sideboard Song, Rabbit, Margate and Ain't No Pleasin' You - which is exactly what they do! For ONE night only - don't miss out, book now.

This is Seb Clarke

Friday 27th October

THIS IS SEB CLARKE are a young band from Stoke-on-Trent. Their line-up comprises Hammond organ, piano, bass, drums, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, two trumpets, three saxophones and a trombone. The somewhat inimitable Seb Clarke is their front-man and songwriter. He started out as a solo artist in 2001 playing soulful ballads armed only with his acoustic guitar and blues harp. A tour of acoustic tents at numerous festivals culminated in a performance at T in the Park.

Later that year, the line-up expanded to incorporate a bass player and drummer, but this trio - Seb being the kind of person who just doesn't know when to stop - rapidly grew into the twelve-piece it now is. The band sound was getting faster, louder and more energetic and soon developed into a curious blend of Northern Soul and punk. Comparisons with early Dexy's or 'The Clash with brass' come closest to describing such an eclectic sound.

Already, as a nod towards old Northern Soul posters, sixties Stax album cover designs and Spinal Tap(!), the band had begun to advertise itself, with tongue firmly in cheek, as "This Is Seb Clarke". "This is" stuck and so a solo acoustic act had officially become a full throttle, stomping twelve-piece Soul-Punk band. In summer 2003 the band went into the studio to record their debut album; Rover. A performance at Guilfest brought endless commendation from reviewers and fans alike - the Radio 2 website voted them the second best band of the Festival after Blondie and before The Stranglers and they've made more and more successful festuval appearances, culminating in sell-out London shows and a place on many radio playlists. This is Seb Clarke are going to be huge. Catch them in the atmospheric confines of the 100 Club before they get too big...

A full supporting cast will be announced in due course...

The Yardbirds plus support from Rollo Markee & The Tailshakers

Saturday 28th October

By now, everyone knows The Yardbirds legend, if not their music; the band graduated three of the great Ph.D.s of rock guitar: Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. They created hard rock out of standard twelve-bar blues, doubling the tempos and whacking the amps up to ten. On the British club scene, The Yardbirds, the Animals, and the Rolling Stones ruled the stages.

The Yardbirds expanded the range of the electric guitar, experimenting with feedback, sustain, and fuzz tone. The Yardbirds were the bridge between the tributary white R&B of early-sixties London and the pastures of fuzz-toned psychedelic and power-chorded heavy metal ploughed much later in the decade and throughout the seventies. Yes, The Yardbirds laid the groundwork for Rock Guitar As We Know It.

Changing the landscape of Rock 'n' Roll isn't attributed to many bands, but The Yardbirds - still featuring original members Jim McCarty and Chris Dreja - are one of them. This classic band are must for any true Rock 'n' Roll fan and are not to be missed performing down the 100 Club on the 28th October.

ROLLO MARKEE & THE TAILSHAKERS are a band that take their influences from the different styles of music that were prominent in the USA in the 1950s and 1960s. Their sound is an authentic blend of Chicago blues and west coast swing, using vintage microphones sparingly to create an authentic sound comparable to the original Chess Studio sound.
