AS I LAY DYING - Tim & Nick explain how to leg-wrestle

Video footage of AS I LAY DYING vocalist Tim Lambesis and guitarist Nick Hipa "leg-wrestling" at this year's Download festival has been posted at

Tim Lambesis recently told that the band's forthcoming LP, "An Ocean Between Us", was largely influenced by what he perceives is the deterioration of the so-called "metalcore" genre.

Produced by KILLSWITCH guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz (EVERY TIME I DIE, ALL THAT REMAINS), the album — which hits stores August 21 and features backing vocals from members of DESTROY THE RUNNER — will include a dozen tracks, including "Separation", "Within Destruction" and the likely first single, "Nothing Left". Lambesis said listeners will find that each song differs from the next, with some cuts bordering on chaotic and foreboding, others more driven by melody, and a couple that are just straight-up, balls-to-the-wall thrashy.

Sup Buddies?!?!

I know, we said that our new record entitled "Masked" would come out in June / July. Unfortunately we had some trouble (again!) with finishing our recordings / mix and we had to delay the release.

But everything is working out pretty good right now and it's going to be a really strong record!

The new release date is end of August, together with the new records of our friends in AS I LAY DYING and NEAERA.

We will post some details about our new record, such as track list, album artwork and so on, in the near future.

Check back every now and then!

SONIC REIGN - Free download of early stuff, pics and more

Well it's been a quite while since the last news...

The band is currently working heavily on material for the next album. Many of the fragments created so far differ from 'raw dark pure' in some way. But still raw energy is and remains the most important thing within SONIC REIGN's sound.

At you can download the complete '99 "A Journey" demo of MEGIDDO (from whose ashes SONIC REIGN arose). There you'll also find a studio video from the "raw dark pure" session. Enjoy!

There have been some new pictures of the band uploaded to SR's MySpace-page done by Sathonys (AGATHODAIMON).

THE ABSENCE put new video online

The clip for "Interpretation" off their last album "From Your Grave" has been posted at YouTube:

THIS ENDING working on new album

THIS ENDING, the Stockholm, Sweden-based band formerly known as THE PLAGUE (before they were forced to change their name for legal reasons), has issued the following update:

"We are pleased to announce that we have started working on the second album. Material is coming on as fast as ever and we're keeping busy writing and arranging the new songs. We'll post more details on the forthcoming full-length during the summer — when we manage to get out of the rehearsal room, that is."

THIS ENDING's debut album, "Inside the Machine", was released in Europe in December 2006 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Offbeat studio in Stockholm with producer Linus Nirbrant. Mastering was done by Peter in de Betou at Tailor Maid.

JOB FOR A COWBOY comment on Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award

Red hot extreme metal unit JOB FOR A COWBOY was named "Best Underground Band" at the 2007 Metal Hammer "Golden Gods Awards". JOB FOR A COWBOY joins an esteemed list of metal titans that have laid claim to the award including SATYRICON, MESHUGGAH, MASTODON and IN FLAMES. The band was present at the June 11 award ceremony in London to accept the award onstage.

JOB FOR A COWBOY, who delivered an exhilarating live set as part of the UK's Download Festival on June 8, are in the midst of a host of European festival performances in support of their critically acclaimed debut album "Genesis". "Genesis" debuted at #54 on the Billboard Top 200 chart in its first week of release, joining the initial releases from STONE SOUR and DAMAGEPLAN (which featured members of SLIPKNOT and PANTERA respectively) amongst the highest charting metal debuts to crack Billboard's Top 200 since SLIPKNOT's 1999 self-titled album.

"We're happy to accept this award, and are proud to be a part of the underground scene," states JOB FOR A COWBOY guitarist Ravi Bhadriraju. "We'd like to thank all of the fans who voted for us, Metal Hammer for giving us the opportunity to be nominated, our management and Metal Blade Records for everything. We're in Europe right now with CONVERGE, ANIMOSITY and RISE AND FALL. We'll be heading out to Sounds of the Underground in a few weeks. Come hang out and have a good time!"

"I am truly thrilled and humbled by this great award," comments Metal Blade Records owner and founder Brian Slagel. "We are very happy at how well JOB FOR A COWBOY has been received for such a new, young band. This is just the beginning of a long and great career for JFAC, and I am happy we could start off with such a prestigious award. Thanks to Metal Hammer and everyone involved and congrats to JOB FOR A COWBOY!" Slagel, the man known for releasing the first recordings by METALLICA in 1982 and signing SLAYER the very next year, welcomed JOB FOR A COWBOY to his label's roster in 2006.

In additional JOB FOR A COWBOY news, the band has announced the first dates of its Summer U.S. headlining tour, set to launch on August 13, immediately following their participation as part of the 2007 "Sounds of the Underground" tour. Support on the JOB FOR A COWBOY tour will be provided by A LIFE ONCE LOST, DESPISED ICON and THE FACELESS.

BRING ME THE HORIZON will be coming to America this summer with an impressive lineup of bands that include IT DIES TODAY, KITTIE, SILENT CIVILLIAN and BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART.

AKERCOCKE’s music video for the song, "Axiom" can now be found on YouTube.

The highly anticipated video was directed by Erica Herbert of HSI London (NIRVANA, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE). Deemed "a unique and beautiful visual outing" by frontman, Jason Mendonca, "Axiom" leaves the realm of mere music video and enters the realm of pure art.

"Axiom" comes off AKERCOCKE’s latest release, ‘ANTICHRIST.’ Rated a 9 in Decibel, ‘ANTICHRIST’ is yet another step forward in AKERCOCKE’s ever evolving journey into darkness. You can find ‘ANTICHRIST’ in UK stores NOW and on July 17 in the US. It’s also available on EARACHE.COM.

Ephel Duath "Hole IV" from "Pain Remixes The Known" on myspace

Ephel Duath have posted an mp3 of "Hole IV" from the upcoming album "Pain Remixes The Known" on their myspace page.

The "Pain remixes the known" album is a remix album of "Pain necessary to know" which came out in 2006.

Guitarist Davide explains " The way we designed the previous album, Pain Necessary to Know, left room for a lot of new interpretations, or remixes as is the case here. The initial idea came from Earache's Dan Tobin, and it seduced us straight away.

We were on tour at the time and therefore had enough spare time on the road to discuss about all this and we all arrived to the conclusion that slowing down the BPM of PNTK to a dubbish rhythm would be a slight risk that had the potential to become a thrilling experience."

He continues

"Two years ago ambient-dub guru Eraldo Bernocchi contacted us just to congratulate us for our work and ended up inviting us to dinner. Eraldo is a guitar player, producer and electronic musician. He's got more than 20 years of musical career and 75 full length albums spanning many different audio and visual projects with artists and musicians from all over the world.

Some of his partners and collaborators are Bill Laswell, Mick Harris, Toshinori Kondo, Thomas Fehlmann, DJ Disk and Harold Budd. He scored various soundtracks, just to mention a few "Nirvana" and "Denti" of the Oscar Prize winner Gabriele Salvatores.

Among his remixes he counts Almamegretta, Prince Paul/Jungle Brothers, WordSound, Robert Miles, AFA, The Maldoror Project and many others ranging from dub to metal and drum and bass. A brilliant artist basically. So Lucio and I went to Tuscany where he lives and a lot of ideas regarding possible collaboration came up that night.

fter a few months Eraldo asked us to compose a song with him for the 20th anniversary of his band Sigillum S. The song came out real Pink Floydish, with spoken words as well as the typical Ephel Duath appeal added to the ambient guitar of Eraldo. Some time went by and our friendship developed, and at some point Dan Tobin's idea for the remix album came up and we immediately thought of Eraldo.

The whole album, Pain Remixes the Known, has been composed by Eraldo in his home studio called The Place with the help of collaborator and singer Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari."

"An Ephel Duath fan knows that the band is shapeless. We think that PRTK is an extremely important experiment that can help the band widen the scope of its fanbase and can surprise whoever is used to our sound. Just listen to it and see for yourself."

Get a taster of the album at

"Pain remixes the known" is out on July 23rd on Earache records.

Ephel Duath play at Hellfest this weekend in Clisson France (Sunday June 24th on the Gibson stage)

PRIMORDIAL - news update from A.A. Nemtheanga

It’s been a long time since my last message….

The first and most important thing is that PRIMORDIAL will enter the studio in July and August to record the new album. We are travelling across the water to Wales to the middle of nowhere to an old analog studio. And with the blessing of Metal Blade it should be out in 2007…

The themes have moved on from the last album (they are also becoming more expansive and perhaps less desperate then the last album) and right now I’m beginning to piece together some ideas for the artwork with Paul from Scald who made "The Gathering Wilderness" look so special. It will look incredible I can guarantee that and will be an absolutely pure artistic statement in this day and age of hollow, plastic meaningless Metal covers. This of course goes for the music as well without saying !…

Apart from that some bad news, we have had to cancel both Dong Open Air in Germany and Metal Healing in Greece. Rehearsing has always operated at a premium with Primordial and now with the comparatively large distances between us we can’t devote time to both rehearsing for shows and making a new album. We sincerely apologise, anyone who knows us knows we hate to disappoint those who always come down and show their support for the band live. We will do our best to make it up to everyone in 2008.

Sentinel Records from Ireland are going to release "The Gathering Wilderness" on picture disc, No Sign of Life from Finland "Dark Romanticism"

and Black Ace from Holland look like doing "Storm Before Calm" on pic disc with some revised and improved artwork all before the end of the year !. Not to mention my plans for splits with both Desaster and Rotting Christ. It’s going to be a busy 18 months with Wars to fight on several fronts…

I am also going to release a split 7" with a project I wrote some songs for called PLAGUED. I recorded a 2 track demo about 5 or more years ago. Finally Einheit Productions from Germany have persuaded me to release one track as a split 7" with Trimonium. I’m interested to see what people make of it. I’ll put the track up there on my myspace site soon. How very 21st century of me…I might continue now and try and forge a proper line-up for the band with this shot in the arm of enthusiasm. We shall see. Click Here for cover art and label info.

So that ends this transmission for now, If you are one of the few people still waiting on shirts. Bear with me, I’ waiting on reprints at the moment.

We will never rip off anyone and you will all get something extra if you’ve been waiting some time…

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Podblast pt. 8 available

Welcome to the 8th edition of the Nuclear Podblast! This time you can listen to interviews with Karls Sanders from NILE and Silenoz from DIMMU BORGIR. Both are talking about their new albums, their touring plans and all that is new. Also check out some brand new tracks from NILE, DIMMU BORGIR, SONIC SYNDICATE, CLAWFINGER, CANDLEMASS and SONATA ARCTICA. With them, this summer will definitely be a hot one!

AS I LAY DYING announce European headlining shows in September

AS I LAY DYING will begin touring their highly anticipated new album "An Ocean Between Us" in Europe starting with four UK shows.

The San Diego five-piece, now bolstered by the addition of bassist Josh Gilbert, return after tearing the Dimebag Darrell stage apart at Download 2007 and will be joined by special guests DARKEST HOUR.

09.09.07 - UK - GLASGOW - GARAGE
10.09.07 - UK - MANCHESTER - ACADEMY 2

"An Ocean Between Us" is the long-awaited follow up to 2005's "Shadows Of Security". The majority of the album was recorded at vocalist Tim Lambesis' home studio, aptly named Lambesis Studio, in San Diego, California.

Adam Dutkiewicz (UNDEROATH, ALL THAT REMAINS, THE ACACIA STRAIN) of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE collaborated with AS I LAY DYING on all recording and production duties. Song titles set to appear on the CD include "Separation", "Nothing Left", "Within Destruction" and title track, "An Ocean Between Us".

"An Ocean Between Us" will be released via Metal Blade on August 24th in G/A/CH/I and on the 27th in the rest of Europe!

DISILLUSION announce new line-up

Good news for the upcoming festival and live season! DISILLUSION have found a replacement for ex-drummer Maluschka. New drummer will be Alex "Sasch" Tscholakov, who has worked on every one of the band’s releases over the past 10 years, either on the mix or otherwise. Sasch apparently is the perfect choice for the band and we are very excited to start writing the new record with him soon.

Also, the vacant bass player spot is filled. To complete the line-up, Alla Fedynitch joins DISILLUSION. She has been a session bass player for quite a number of bands before and is of course more than a mere gain in the low frequency band.

Welcome to both of you!

HIMSA - announce new album title & release date

Like a voracious hellion, the mighty HIMSA have returned to annihilate the masses with their scathing new metal assault, "Summon In Thunder", which is set for a September 17th release. Steve Carter (who produced HIMSA’s second album "Courting Tragedy and Disaster") produced the music while Devin Townsend (Lamb of God, Darkest Hour) produced vocals and the renowned Tue Madsen (The Haunted) brought it all together, nailing the mixing and mastering duties.

Derek Harn (bass) states: ""Summon In Thunder" was paid for in blood, sweat and fury. Over 5 weeks straight of 20-hour days, and metal masters from three countries worked tirelessly under tight deadlines to create this monster. It was pure -- but ultimately rewarding -- anguish. In the end, it all paid off, and the intensity of the recording process carries through the album like a horde of stampeding wildebeests."

To watch HIMSA "suffering" in the studio, watch the third part of the band’s studio report series at this link

Derek continues: "During our endless hours in the studio, we had a great idea for a video that we couldn’t pass up and decided to make this our first enhanced CD. The video is for our shortest, thrashiest song, "Unleash Carnage", and is truly one of the grossest, most ridiculous displays in all of metaldom.

Also on the CD, we included video footage on the making of the album, sort of a diary of how the process was working out at the time. To top it off, we put lots of pretty pictures of us in a photo gallery, so all the girls can make posters of us and hang them on their bedroom walls.

Speaking of pretty pictures, the ever-masterful Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord) created all the art and design for this album's packaging. He researched what ancient cultures believed created thunder in the heavens and worked closely with Pettibone’s lyrics to create the imagery of mythological creatures and the power of nature’s dark wrath. It’s amazing art.

We are incredibly proud of this album and feel it’s a pure representation of who we are as individuals and as a band. We are anxious to get back out on the road and see all our friends across the globe."

With original guitarist Sammi Curr returning to the fold and collaborating with Kirby Johnson (guitars) this scorching new effort (and debut Century Media offering) promises a shredding onslaught of massive riffs, devastating dynamics and refreshing savageness.

With an European tour already planned for autumn 2007 and the stunning "Summon In Thunder" under their belt, there is nothing that can prevent HIMSA from taking the world by storm!

SONIC SYNDICATE - + Epica - TV broadcast WDR Rockpalast

On June 21st, both bands were performing live at the Underground, Cologne and the audience at the completely sold out venue was raging. SONIC SYNDICATE kicked off the party and like one day before supporting MEGADETH, which was their first gig ever in Germany, the band kicked Cologne people’s a**es and almost broke the stage!

The songs from their new album "Only Inhuman" were pretty much celebrated by the audience and if you have never seen them live before, you better run to one of the next shows at German festivals (With Full Force, Wacken, Up From The Ground) - don’t miss it! The album hit the German charts on position 64, which is pretty amazing for a band who has never played in this country before at this point!

After SONIC SYNDICATE, Netherlands based metallers EPICA hit the stage! Their new album "The Divine Conspiracy" will be released in the beginning of September via Nuclear Blast Records and their mixture between awesome melodies, groundbreaking riffing and nasty shouting will attract fans from DIMMU BORGIR as well as the fans of NIGHTWISH!

The TV station WDR will broadcast this show on August 6th from 0.30 am - 2.00 am! It is called "Rockpalast Bootleg" and if you should have missed the live show, don’t even miss the TV appearance!

SONIC SYNDICATE have also been confirmed to support DARK TRANQUILLITY for 4 shows in Sweden! Check out all tour dates at this location!

IHSAHN to collaborate with Starofash and Grimen on new Neo-Folk album "Hardingrock"

This recording is a collaboration between the musicians Starofash (Heidi Solberg Tveitan), Ihsahn (Vegard Tveitan) and Grimen (the fiddler Knut Buen) in a musical category we have labeled "Hardingrock". "Grimen" presents folk tunes on the Norwegian national instrument, Harding fiddle, text and melodies based on Norwegian mythical tradition, arranged and re-composed in modern form with influences from heavy metal and classically inspired electronica.

An experimental project where folk tunes are thematically broken down and expressed in a new rhythmic and harmonic form with guitars, piano, keyboards, percussion, recitation and song. "It has been a great experience to work with such a fine musician as Knut Buen", says Heidi S. Tveitan, the name behind Starofash. "The process has been challenging in terms of us having to work within the tonality of Norwegian Folk music, and to make non-rhythmic music into 'rock'n'roll rhythms'", she continues. "Even though the elements the three of us brought to the table were very contrasting, I think we're all very pleased with how it came together", says IHSAHN. "The material provided to us by Knut is a huge part of Norway's cultural treasure, and I think the album definitely is a worthy development that rocks!"

New ENTOMBED album out now

With regards to the musical direction of the new album, the band previously said, "'Serpents Saints' goes wider and deeper than the 'When In Sodom' EP but it's a pretty good indicator. It's no concept album but an ambitious attempt at creating a solid album with some recurring themes. Almost like the soundtrack to the film with the same name."

"Serpent Saints - The Ten Amendments" track listing:

01. Serpent Saints
02. Masters of Death
03. Amok
04. Thy Kingdom Coma
05. When in Sodom
06. In The Blood
07. Ministry
08. The Dead, The Dying and The Dying To Be Dead
09. Warfare, Plague, Famine, Death
10. Love Song For Lucifer

BORN FROM PAIN - 2nd anniversary show

Anniversary show that we were possibly planning for Thursday the 28th. We had about 150 reservations already and an awesome surprise guest for the show, but it was increasingly turning out to be a problem logistically with just 3 weeks to get everything promoted decently again and get everything together the way we wanted to.

Something else we have discussed the last week is the fact that, besides an Anniversary show, it's the last show of Che. 1 The day before without him just didn't feel right. Another reason is that we couldn't get a clear view on the whole pre-sale situation for the Friday (as a lot of people might understand since they had the same problem...), so to make it easy we decided to just the one on the Friday.

Like we said before, make sure you are there at 19:00 if you don't have a ticket yet, people might be late picking tickets up. It's a risk but we figure there's good chance... Sorry for everyone who reserved tickets at the venue for the Thursday. Hope we can make it up at some point.

MIDDIAN - "Age Eternal" on vinyl

The very fine gentlemen of Land O Smiles are releasing our album, "Age Eternal", on Double 12". It has a gatefold cover and the pressing is limited to 500 on 180-gram vinyl. Land O Smiles are accepting pre-orders for the record. If you click on that link it will take you to your page where you can buy this record, so don't ask to order one from us. Order it from them. They rule. It is due to arrive at Land O Smiles Headquarters on July 30th.
