STEVE WILLIAMS (POWER QUEST)

1. What are you currently up to? (e.g. touring/studio,etc.)

We are currently writing new material for our second album which we hope to record towards the end of next summer. I think we've got about 8 new songs so far. We're also getting ready to make an announcement about the new drummer in the band.

2. Who was/is your biggest influence on your career?

Personally I think Iron Maiden have been a huge influence on me. Also bands like Thin Lizzy and Motorhead who I startedlistening to in the early 80's along with Maiden. These are the bands that made me want to be in a band!

3. Brief history of your work to date the style of music you play.

Well our first album "Wings of Forever" will be out next week. We recorded it over a 6 week period this summer at Thin Ice studios with Karl Groom (Theshold) handling production duties. Prior to this we recorded a two track demo again with Karl in December 2001. That demo proved quite popular and it led to us signing a deal with Underground Symphony.

I would call Power Quest "melodic power metal with classical and progressive influences". Not very concise I know but I think it covers things quite well!

4. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?

Well the band has only been in existence for less than two years so everything up until now has been a high point, especially the recording of our debut album and recruiting our vocalist Alessio. I think the great thing about the band is that everyone gets on really well and I can't ever remember a band argument! Strange eh? haha!

5. How easy is it to gets gigs? What is the live music scene like? Who have you toured with and would like to tour with in the future?

So far we are yet to make our live debut but maybe next year we will appear at the Bloodstock festival in Derby and I hope we can get over to mainland Europe for a few shows and festivals. There are a small but enthusiastic power metal following in this country and a few bands too (Intense, Shadowkeep and DragonForce) but we are starting to see bands like Hammerfall, Stratovarius and Freedom Call come over to the UK to play, which can only be good for UK bands like ourselves. Personally I'd like to tour with Edguy, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Hammerfall,Threshold, Nightwish, Sonata Arctica...any of these bands would be amazing to play with!

6. What do you think of the state of rock music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it?

I NEVER listen to the radio these days Jason. Mainly because I just don't get the time....I always put a CD or LP on when I want to listen to something. Occasionally I check out some web radio shows. The internet has been awesome for Power Quest... without there is no way we would have reached so many people with the "Quest"

7. If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?

Vocals - Rob Tyrant (Labyrinth) or Chris Bay (Freedom Call) Guitars - John Petrucci (Dream Theater) Guitars - Michael Romeo (Symphony X) Bass - Steve Harris Keyboards - Mika Harkin (ex Sonata Arctica) Drums - Jorg Michael (Stratovarius) This line up just does it for me.....fantastic vocals (huge ranges), technical and tight guitaring, exceptional rhythm section with Jorg and Steve and Mika is one of my favourite young keyboardists. A shame he has left Sonata Arctica. I would imagine this line up would kick major ass live!

9. What other bands can you recommend?

I can recommend Arthemis (Italian speed metal featuring 2 members of Power Quest), Edguy, Storm Warrior, Threshold, Nightwish, Planet X, Enchant. As you can see I'm a huge prog metal fan as well as power metal!

10. What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?

Our debut album will be available next week. It's called Wings of Forever. Check our website for full distribution details (www.power-quest.co.uk) but it will be available at online stores like www.metalmerchant.com www.hellionrecords.de . We have UK distribution through Plastic Head and it should see the light of day in the UK in November. If anyone has any questions about the distribution either contact Underground Symphony or send me an email. Full details on our site.

10. Your most loyal fan(s) and a general message?

We've got some really loyal fans on our website forum. Guys like Madrigal, Blessed Night Child, Athallus, Dragonmaiden, Weekend Warrior, Ayeka, Tet, Eagle, John Ward. It's their enthusiasm that makes it all worth while for me. I'm sure I've forgotten some people too! Sorry guys! I'd just like to thank EVERYONE who has visited our site, posted on the forum, downloaded the MP3's, reviewed the demo, sent us interviews to do, sent us emails or letters. We really appreciate the support and I hope that you all enjoy the album as much as we enjoyed making it for you all. Until next time......the Quest must go on!
