SWEET SAVAGE Regeneration Rock Candy (2011)

Sweet Savage

Reissue specialists Rock Candy now have a Candyman imprint for new albums, and NWoBHM legends Sweet Savage get the opportunity here. This Northern Ireland band have a long and complicated history, but did once feature Vivian Campbell and have influenced Metallica.

Now fronted by original bassist/ vocalist Ray Haller, the band now still features long time guitarist Ian 'speedo' Wilson and this album features contribution from original guitarist Trevor Flemming, who passed away last year.

This album is modern, dark, heavy, full of blistering guitar solos and pounding rhythms. Classic NWoBHM indeed, and the track 'Regenerator' will catch and please all serious metal heads.

'No Guts No Glory' typifies the band's heavier edge, being on the verge of extreme metal. It's easy to see their influence on thrash from this.

The guitar work is excellent, the vocals a little rough at times, but it's 13 tracks and over an hour of classic metal.

***½
