PAGAN'S MIND Heavenly Ecstasy SPV (2011)

Pagan's Mind

This is the band's fifth album although prior to this release they were a band I only knew about via gig ads or the odd forum posting. My loss as this band are one supremely talented power/melodic metal act. They have recently toured the UK at modest sized venues but I am sure once this album gtes more widely heard and known about, next time around they will be playing bigger venues.

This band have many musical bases from the melodic rock masterpiece 'Live Your Life Like A Dream' (reminded me of prog rockers Everon) through to 'Intermission', which is one for Kamelot fans. 'Live Your Life Like A Dream' really is immense - dig that keyboard solo and vocal harmonies. 'Walk Away In Silence' is an instant hit on the ears, from the Geoff Tate approved opening screams through to the hooked filled chorus. Hints of Queensryche as well in the guitars but the band are no copycats as they have their own unique sound that relies on keyboards often taking the lead role.

For the more metal minded 'Into The Aftermath' is a nice, brutal slab of metal, whilst 'Eyes Of Fire' uses keys and guitars to good effect, again the band nail down a massive chorus.

Pagan's Mind should be on the 'must have' list of any lover of power/melodic metal and melodic rock fans who fancy dipping their toes into this genre. What with Power Quest and Eden's Curse already this year it has been a great year so far for this style of music.

****½
