JOHNNY LIMA Livin' Out Loud Shock Pop Records (2009)

Johnny Lima

Johnny Lima, the man who makes better Bon Jovi albums than latter day Bon Jovi do. This was certainly true of his last album, the rather wonderful 'Made In California'. Now on this new album Johnny Lima has gone even heavier, the title track blasts you away - imagine Angus Young's guitar playing in Bon Jovi.

'All I Want' fair rips the listeners ears off as well, massive hook and simple but effective chorus. But fear not if you hanker after the more AOR/melodic rock side as you get 'I'm On Fire' which blows bands like Poison and Warrant out of the water. 'Hate To Love You' is another bona fide melodic rock classic which again shows how well Johnny Lima can pen high quality melodic rock songs. The classic Bon Jovi sound comes back in 'Hard To Say Goodbye' (listen out to for some immense keybaords) and the ballad 'Somebody To Love' is one of his best yet. Great use of harmonies on this song. No complaints on the sound and production either, very strong throughout the whole album.

Not as instant at times on certain songs as his previous albums and certainly heavier, nonetheless this is another gem of an album. Hopefully it will get a good distribution (come on you melodic rock labels sign this one up!) as it is well worth hearing and getting.
