JOHN MARTYN The Man Upstairs Voiceprint (2008)
Martyn's banter lost in translation...not the music John Martyn

A singer/songwriter that all should know, who has produced some fine work.

This DVD was recorded live in Germany in 1978, a one man show that many will enjoy, and many won't get, but that's another matter.

A one man show, one man and his acoustic guitar, but there's more than just singing and strumming here.

While the man's banter and intersong chat is lost on the Germans, the music isn't.

Yes there is the staple acoustic songs, but featuring some heartfelt songs, some decent guitar playing (acoustic strumming is a real turn off for me too you know).

And with the use of pedals and loops, there is a lengthy instrumental section where the guitar is made to produce several electronic noises. Innovation indeed, and something many one man bands could learn from.

Over an hour, 12 tracks, you get every pace, pick and sound imaginable from an acoustic guitar, something the crowd do appreciate.

If you have an open mind, it's worth exploring.
