WITCHFYNDE Cloak And Dagger
Lemon CDLEM88 (2006)

After two well received albums that went nowhere and a label that went bust, NWoBHM / black metal band were kind of left in limbo, but this 1983 album (on an equally unstable label, financially at least) was one of the band’s finest moments.

The tunes are good, so are the riffs and screams, and although they were a second division act the recording wasn’t too bad.

Some of the tracks are a little more melodic, imagine if Def Leppard had actually been a NWoBHM band, but tracks like “Crystal Gazing” go down a treat, and “I’d Rather Go Wild” is classic black metal at its best.

Deserves a listen and long overdue on CD. Not the most classic metal ever but this was what the NWoBHM was all about.

***½
