Lemon CDLEM63 (2005)

One-time guitarist with Lynyrd Skynyrd who sadly perished in the 1977 plane crash, Gaines recorded this album two years prior to joining the band, but it wasnít released for 14 years, surfacing in 1988 on MCA.

Itís a pleasant mix of southern style rock and ríníb (the cover of Itís Alright), and a thoroughly enjoyable set.

Itís a much lighter effort than LS, a fair bit more MOR, and AOR too. But the influences are still there. So is the guitar work (some nice touches of slide), song writing and big band sound.

Enjoyable though it is, itís not a patch on Skynyrd, and its importance does tend to get overplayed, especially by Domeís otherwise informative sleevenotes. Fans will love it, but youíre much better off with Skynyrdís Street Survivors LP.
