SPYAMP GTI Pet Piranha(2005)

Yet another CD in my recent dollop of indie bands; this lot sound quite a bit like the Smiths fronted by a slightly less camp and whingy singer.

There is that familiar jangly guitar so favoured by Johnny Marr and others of his ilk. Yet this lot take that familiar territory and add a bit of modern twist to it.

Pop sensibilities are close under the surface as well. No more so than in the shouty vocals on tracks like 'have no names'.

The band have toured extensively and are to do a BBC session.

This is the debut album from the band who will no doubt be welcomed with open arms by the College indie crowd. A new twist on an ole' from can be quite fun at times. It will be interesting to see where these lads head with their next release.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
