SCOTT MATTHEWS Passing Stranger San Remo REMOCD001 (2006)

Midlands based singer/songwriter Matthews releases this new album, but it's hardly a rock affair.

The 40 second opener 'Little Man Tabla Jam' features some neat slide acoustic guitar, but it's downhill there.

A mixture of styles, including a tabla, it's pretty standard singer songwriter material. Some nice tunes along the way, the bluesier tracks work well, the rest is ordinary, and that's being kind.

Nice, too nice, coffee table music.

**½

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
