SAGA ‘Network’ SPV CD085-69752(2004)

Canadian Art-Rockers Saga are still going strong and have lost none of their progressiveness or pomposity since their 1978 debut.

The Rush comparisons are obvious, but there’s a strong element in both the rhythm and vocals. In fact since signing to SPV in 1998 the band have been just as prolific and solid as ever.

The vocals are high, and the keyboards provide a strong progressive feel while the guitars provide at times some searing solos (especially on the opener ‘On The Air’) and filling out with some chunky riffs elsewhere.

‘I’m Back’ kicks off with an almost ambient keyboard before the guitars come in, and the acoustic guitar on ‘If I were you’ is Tull-ish.

While Rush comparisons are obvious it’s still a thoroughly enjoyable set, strong and solid throughout.
