PETE WAY ‘Amphetamine’ Majestic Rock MAJCD040 (2004)

The UFO bassist recorded this set as a power-trio back in 1999. Typically of Majestic Rock releases, what happened to the release between then and now is not mentioned, but the music is a breath of fresh air.

Way’s vocals take on an element of Phil Lewis, while in places there’s an element of Torme to Walt James’ guitar. Classic rock with enough energy for that glam/punk edge. “Fooled Again” features a touch of metal slide Manny Charlton style, and “Hole” is a slower number with an acoustic intro.

Though thoroughly enjoyable it has little in common with his work now, with or without UFO, or in fact with the music scene of the last 15 years. Still, well worth a listen by anyone. Retro but great.
