ON THE RISE (Frontiers 2003)
A new AOR band with a line-up consisting of Terje Eide (vocals/guitars),
Bennech Lyngboe (vocals), Zsolt Meszaros (drums), Jan Martin Kleveland
(bass), Asbjorn Vie (keys) and Roy Bjorge (keys). There are hooks a plenty
and plenty of harmony vocals, none more so than on the opener ‘Beat of Your
Heart’. ‘Lift You Up’ features Journey like harmonies, whilst ‘Pride’ is a
prime time slice of mid-tempo AOR - think Skagarak meets Survivor. If you
want a bit more rock then ‘Running In The Night’ has some heavy riffing but
still keeps melody to the fore. Other tracks worth a listen include ‘Sadness
Hits Like A Stone’ and the 70’s rock tinged ‘Stranded’.
If you like the classic AOR sound then this is one of the best albums to
come along in awhile, which along with the new Departure album has got the
year of to a cracking start!
