NFD ‘No Love Lost’ Jungle FREUCD081 (2004)

Dark wave metal, gothic metal, call it what it you will, this a damn fine set from ex members of Fields Of The Nephilim and Sensorium.

A hint of Nu in the dark gothic sounds make for a gripping set, and opener 'Omen / Blackened' is a real heavy number with trad thrash leanings and gothic vocals. 'Stronger' is more acoustic but that is soon rectified in 'Awaken'. The opening few notes of 'Hold On The Life' echo Saxon’s 'Crusader' but the music here is pretty original.

There are however, some limitations; the rhythms for a start. The band seem only to be able to play at two or three speeds, with equally limited rhythm styles.

Even so, it’s a great goth rock album. Those of a darker disposition will love it, but it’s not for the casual metal listener.
