NEIL LEYTON The Betrayal Of The Self
Fading Ways Music FWM047 (2006)

Neil Leyton and his band The Ghosts produce an original sound; punky guitar pop/rock with influences of the classics (Stones, Bowie etc). Punk rock riffs give way to a retro sounding organ. The fact that members of Diamond Dogs and Hellacopters guest on the album should indicate styles. Enough sleazy rock’n’roll amongst the more modern sounds keeps interest.

Interesting, intriguing, rather enjoyable.

And a guest pianist called The Duke Of Honk.

***½

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
