MIDNIGHT CIRCUS 'Money Shot' PER01562 (2005)

Never has a promo CD come with so little information (the CD itself is blank).

But the music is OK, solid, polished and tight, As it should be, but the opening track is very ordinary. The vocals on the second track want to go off in a Beach Boys or Hanoi Rocks direction, but too clean and ‘nice’. Tight party metal (the pre teen version of big hair metal), but with no real conviction. Likewise the guitar, some neat solos but nothing special, and I seriously wonder what the band were on when writing or recording this.

In places good, but with touches of cheesiness too.

It is possible to groove to this, but I’d feel comfortable doing so after at least a whole bottle of wine.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
