MAGNUM Live At Birmingham Classic Pictures (2005)
Essential live show from Brummie favourites...

Magnum

This is the band’s 1992 gig on their home turf of Birmingham. The set list is a ‘hits’ package including ‘Vigilante’, ‘How Far Jerusalem’, ‘Kingdom Of Madness’ and ‘Les Mortis Dansant’. Tracks of the then new album ‘Only In America’ get a look in with the title track and its spine tingling harmony vocals intro. You can’t go wrong with Magnum as they play highly melodic rock and always put on a good show. For you hi-fi buffs the DVD has 5.1 Dolby digital stereo sound!

There is another release out there of this concert but I’d say buy this one because it has the band’s official backing and good sound quality. Plus for fans the big bonus is a 2005 interview with Bob Catley, Tony Clarkin, Mark Stanway (who were all in the 1992 concert line-up) plus relative new boy, bass player Al Barrow. The band members are on fine form and cover the band’s early days, Mark Stanway’s unusual audition into the band and the break-up in 1995. Interspersed between the talking are live clips plus some studio footage recorded during the band making the ‘Brand New Morning’ album.

Pretty damn essential for Magnum fans and a good intro for others who may wonder what all the fuss is about the band. Watch this DVD and you will understand
