LA GUNS Walking The Dog (Spitfire 2002)
The line-up on this album is Phil Lewis (vocals), Tracii Guns (guitar),
Adam Hamilton (bass) and Steve Riley (drums). Kicking off with ‘Don’t Look
At Me That Way’, a heavy rocker and it reminds me a lot of Love/Hate circa
‘Blackout in the Red Room’. Some great guitar soloing - very metal! ‘OK,
Let’s Roll’ is LA Guns take on Sep 11th (the title was the words said by a
passenger on the plane before they attacked the hijackers) and again is very
heavy, whilst retaining melody. ‘Waking the Dead’ has a heavy riff
underpinning some Halford-like screaming vocals from Phil Lewis.
‘Revolution’ is okay - nothing special, the song only really comes alive
with the chorus. ‘The Ballad’ is what it says it is! A slow building ballad
with some tasty guitar. ‘Frequency’ is another okay song - not bad but you
won’t remember much about it. ‘Hellraisers Ball’ starts with a huge riff and
again sounds like Love/Hate! Closing track ‘Don’t You Cry’ bounces along
nicely and would be a good song live, with great soloing again from Tracii
Guns.
A good album, which was much better than I was expecting! Very heavy
sounding, with only one ballad and a far cry from their glam rock roots (and
sounding better for it in my opinion). But with recent events and Traci
Guns new band this could sadly be the last studio album by this band.
