L.A. ‘Unfinished Business/LA’ Escape ESM110(2004)

This limited edition double CD encompasses two complete albums from 80’s Danish band LA who, after record label problems, disbanded after their eponymous debut. During it’s remastering for CD reissue, the band got back together to re-record their unfinished 2nd album, and that’s what you have here. It’s worth noting that Pretty Maids frontman Ronnie Atkins was once a member of LA.

Much of this came about due to interest from fans; the band were never big in the UK or USA but in mainland Europe, especially their native Denmark, there’s still plenty of support.

The music on the new album is good solid trad European metal with an American edge. Think Maiden or Scorpions with a nod towards Riot or Leatherwolf, in places a hint of Bon Jovi. Twin guitars and keyboards work well with a strong polished sound. Thoroughly enjoyable throughout.

The debut is a little more dated, the songs cluttered and the production not as strong as on the new set. Either way, this great double set will be essential for fans and interesting listening for most others.
