HARD RAIN Hard Rain Sanctuary CMRCD1264 (2006)

The first post Magnum project, Hard Rain were formed by Magnum vocalist Bob Catley and guitarist/songwriter Tony Clarkin, after Magnum split in 1995. This ’97 debut is reissued here, remastered with extra tracks and a forward from the band.

The vocals are distinctly Catley, and Clarkin’s songs are superb as ever. But don’t go expecting Magnum! While there are similarities this is less pomp & circumstance and a more straight hard rock affair with a polished and slightly commercial edge. But it’s too full bodied to be considered commercial in the American sense.

Opener 'Rage On' is a classic, and 'Shame For The Bad Boy' is more anthemic with a more tribal drum sound.

The intricate keyboards bolster the sound well. Even the ballads sound good.

A must listen for Magnum fans and more.
