DON MESCALL Innocent Run Curb CURCD202 (2006)

Irish singer/songwriter Mescall writes a decent tune and plays guitar too. Bolstered by full electric band, this is pretty standard pop guitar faire, with elements of folk.

Touches of piano add a touch of Mike & The Mechanics; great as background music but it’s actually very hard to find this captivating on any level.

The PR name checks many he’s worked with as a songwriter and even more his producers have worked with, and that sums up the album well. Well crafted, well produced, and just too damn ordinary.

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
