DIMITRI Natural High Alythkya Records (2006)

This funk rock album is pretty polished. And don’t go expecting RHCP, it’s far more soulful, in the region of a modern Stevie Wonder with touches of Brass Construction, Santana and Jamiroqui.

In fact if you take away the Spanish feel you get several Santana styled choruses, especially in “Hypnotised”.

With a pop edge, the backing vocals fill the sound. Some nice tunes; some drift along a bit too nicely, others sound upbeat modern polished retro. Think Wild Cherry’s “Play That Funk Music White Boy” – it’s of that ilk, certainly the title track is.

**½

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
