DIAMOND DOGS Bound To Revenge FWM041 (2005)

Swedish rockers Diamond Dogs have released 5 albums over the last 10 years in their native Scandinavia. Releasing a new album for the first time in the UK, this compilation covers their earlier material.

There’s a distinct nod towards fellow Scandinavians Hanoi Rocks in their rock’n’roll, and some great moments here. Opener “Sad To Say I’m Sorry” hints at Rod Stewart, while there’s a touch of Rose Tattoo in “Bite Off”. So yes there’s an element of roughness to the vocals that suits the music well.

The use of both keyboards and saxophone work well, and bursts of slide guitar make sure the rocks really do roll.

After support slots with The Damned, Nazareth and Hanoi Rocks, it’s easy to see where and why they fit in so well.

***½

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
