Rock Candy CANDY005 (2005) (47:11)

This Canadian band debuted in 1982 with this excellent and often overlooked eponymous set. Basic heavy metal with touches of blues rock, jazz and many other styles, the band relied on more than just big hair, which is all some Americans at the time had.

Carl Dixon’s vocals are excellent, and clear, and there’s some very decent guitar riffs in here. Stand Up changes the rhythm well, being slower and more melodic. Even when all you’re getting is a bass line, it’s still catchy.

Produced by Kim Mitchell, and with a very distinctive sleeve, it’s a great album. Bonus tracks and a 16 page booklet make for a top package too.
