BRAZEN ABBOT 'My Resurrection' Frontiers FRCD244(2005)

Virtuoso Bulgarian guitarist Nikolo Kotzev has produced another explosive album, playing European melodic speed metal a fair bit faster and heavier than most.

A steady band of Kolarov (keyboards), bassist Wayne Banks and Mattias Knutas plus a full string section produce a fine sound.

There’s a strong Deep Purple influence, but it’s much heavier and a little pompy in places. Of the four vocalists, most will know Joe Lynn Turner, who does a great job on the opening title track. “Bad Madman” is a standout too.

Some tracks like “Godforsaken” are technically brilliant with some excellent moments, but come across as a little disjointed.

The more melodic tracks (“Dreams”) are thoroughly enjoyable too.

Overall an excellent album and well worth a listen.
