Lionsex’ debut album “Get It” is an interesting one, the band have a good sleazy look but when  the vocals from Jef Leppard (seriously!!) come in they are in a lot lower key than you would expect. Musically the songs are sleazy and move along quite nicely, but the vocals do give them an almost gloomy feel- in the same way that The 69 Eyes’ later material has done.

The Milton Keynes based band cites influences such as Motley Crue and Guns n Roses alongside the likes of Marilyn Manson and Pearl Jam and when you take into account their Sunset Strip look it is a mixed bag really and this may put some people off. The album itself was produced by Matthew Bond and mixed by Jeff Rose and Martin Ford- the same team that have worked on albums by Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine and Skindred- and it must be the kind of success garnered by bands like these that Lionsex hope to achieve.

So what of the actual songs on “Get It”? Early single “Nobody Said It Was Gonna Be Easy”, “Rip Off Britain” and “Rocket 2 Ur Heart” are all good, whilst tracks “Midnight” and “Bringing Back The Heartache” are outstanding.

Not a bad album but the band will need to capitalise on early interest and work with it as they may lose fans if they change direction.
