Angel Air have done a sterling job over the past few years bringing rare, previously unreleased and out of print titles in John Du Cann's catalogue to the shelves again and this collection forms a good overview of the man's career, or maybe a good starting point should you be thinking of exploring this somewhat uncelebrated guitarist and singer/songwriter's talents.

Starting with the psychedlic rock of 60s outfit The Attack, the set works chronilogically through the impressive Andromeda and into the early 70s pinnacle of "Devils Answer", one of three tracks showcasing the excellent and highly recommended Atomic Rooster.  From there, following Du Cann's split from Rooster, its into the Bullet/Hard Stuff era with tracks from the recently reissued "Bullet Proof" and "Bolex Dimentia" discs.  A gap of a few years then ensued before Du Cann worked with Status Quo's Francis Rossi amongst others on what was an initially unreleased solo album that is well worth attention beyond the "Don't Be A Dummy" cut featured here, before "Don't Lose Your Mind" and "They Took Control Of You" represent the successful early 80s reunion of Vincent Crane and Du Cann and the second coming of Atomic Rooster.

Du Cann himself was collaborating with the label prior to his death in September 2011 and had a say in selecting the tracks and dictating the direction of the sleevenotes for this anthology.  Sadly unable to see the project through to release it is nevertheless a fitting tribute to an unsung great.
