ARK ‘Brainsold’ (Urban Pyramid 2002)

Not the prog rockers of the same name but a new band formed by ex-Fall bassist Steve Hanley. The line-up consists of Pete Keogh (vocals), Paul A Hanley (drums), Colin Burns (guitar) and Paul S Hanley (keyboards). Not a lot to say about this album really - it is pop/punk and although played well, the vocalist is average. The production is also slightly ‘tinny’ as well. However, there are two good songs in there - ‘Tsars In Their Eyes’ and ‘The Hitman’. Both feature jangly guitar and driving drums, bit like the Stranglers. Best leave this CD unless you are a Fall fan.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
