ANDY ELLISON Cornflake 200
Voiceprint VP364CD (2006)

Ellison is ex-Johns Children (Marc Bolan’s 60s band), Jet and various others, as well as having had a solo career.

This is a collection of demos, outtakes and rarities across the years. Some of the tracks come complete with crackles from the original vinyl.

An interesting insight, and a range of music, mostly well done, but some does sound rather dated. Takes on the Beatles’ “You Can’t Do That” and “Help” some will find interesting. The John’s Children material (including a Bolan composition) will please 60s rock fans, but the demo quality across much of this material keeps it in the second division.

Not for everyone, but fun along the way. With notes from Ellison track by track which make for a complete nice package.

**½

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
