DIMMU BORGIR - Something big coming up!

Something's coming something that's even bigger than the fact that DIMMU BORGIR will release their long awaited album on April 27th: on top of that, "In Sorte Diaboli" is also gonna be the first concept album in the band's history!

The album's story will be set in medieval Europe. "There's this dude that works as a priest's assistant, and after a while he just discovers that he has nothing to do with Christianity', guitarist Silenoz explains what the concept album is about. „He just sort of has this awakening and realizes that he has different abilities and different powers and is leaning more to the dark side…"

To make the story clearer, not only the lyrics for the songs will be printed in the booklet, but you will also get a short synopsis introducing the listener to the plot.

The album was mixed in Studio Fredman in Göteborg by producers Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten. DIMMU BORGIR recorded it in the following line up that is expected to stay: Shagrath (vocals), Silenoz (guitars), Galder (guitars), I.C.S. Vortex (bass), Mustis (keyboards) und Hellhammer (drums).

POWERWOLF finish mixing second album

German-Romanian dark power metal band POWERWOLF has finished mixing its second album at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden with Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten. The as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2005's "Return in Bloodred" was recorded at Woodhouse studios in Hagen, Germany and is tentatively scheduled for release in Europe this spring via Metal Blade Records.

Commented the band: "Good god, it's done!!!! We finished mixing the last two songs today and transferred all the mixes to the mastering studio in Stockholm, where Peter in de Betou will lay final touches to the masters. A strange feeling right now to finally having finished that project after six intense weeks of production, editing and mixing. But now, sitting here in the recreation room of Studio Fredman listening to the finished unmastered mixes, it really feels goddamn great. We're proud as hell and I'm sure you all will love the album as much as we do. We'll relax now, celebrating we're done and then fly back home to Germany tomorrow."

CRIMINAL bassist search

Anglo-Chilean thrashers CRIMINAL are looking for a new bass player. Frontman Anton Reisenegger recently posted the following message on the band's MySpace page:
"It's unfortunately looking like Staff won't be able to continue in CRIMINAL. We're quite bummed out because he's really grown to be a part of the band, and the last few shows we've played with him have probably been the best since Rod and I moved to Europe, but his work and other commitments don't allow him to dedicate enough time to touring and recording. He will still be doing the BRUJERIA show and might be helping out here and there after that, which we appreciate enormously (cheers mate!), but what it boils down to is we are again without a bassist. Which also means we are looking for one! So if you fulfil the following requirements, drop us a line! A South American background would be very welcome, but is not a must!

- you must have good technique and stage presence
- you must have your own gear
- you must be able to rehearse in the Ipswich/Colchester area (that's in the UK!)
- you must have enough time to tour and record
- you must be into the CRIMINAL style

OK, looking forward to hearing from all you four and five stringers! And to everyone else, see you soon!"
Interested parties should email the band at anton@criminal1.com

NAPALM DEATH "Scum 20th Anniversary edition dual disc" DVD Trailer online

2007 marks the 20th Anniversary of the release of the Napalm Death legendary debut album 'Scum'.

To mark the birth of grindcore and the landmark release of one of the most confrontational records ever released, Earache Records is issuing a special 20th Anniversary Edition Dual Disc of 'Scum' containing the original album and a DVD documentary highlighting the early days of the band and examining the story behind the album and its explosive impact on the wider music scene. Original member Mick Harris talks in depth about the scene at the time, the band's origins and takes a tour to the old band haunts along the way.

The documetary also features an interview with Mark Titchner, the Turner Prize nominee, amongst others, who explains the aesthetic angles to Napalm Death's revolutionary noise.

When 'Scum' was first released in 1987 DJ John Peel was one of the first to pick up on the band's mix of hardcore punk, metal riffs and blistering speed. Redefining what it was to be a heavy band, Napalm Death soon shot to fame on the back of NME cover stories, BBC2 documentaries and the polarised opinion of the larger music community.

'Scum' has since become an acknowledged influence on every extreme metal band since the late 80's.

See a trailer for the documentary on the Earache myspace page www.myspace.com/earacherecords

ABORTED - New E-card online!

Belgian death metal masters ABORTED present you a new E-card providing more info on the band’s new masterpiece 'Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture', out February 19th, 2007 on Century Media Records. You can find out more about the album, the band themselves, check out the video clip for the album’s opener 'The Chondrin Enigma', download some various wallpapers and more @ http://specials.centurymedia.de/ecards/aborted

The media feedback on 'Slaughter & Apparatus: A Methodical Overture' has been absolutely overwhelming, see below for some press quotes and don’t miss this astonishing piece of technical flawlessly executed death metal brutality refreshing the genre with an impact only comparable to Carcass’ godly 'Heartwork' album!

'With its fifth full-length the Belgian high tech death metal squad has finally reached the top of the genre. High class death metal brutality garnered with refined musicianship. Cannibal Corpse and Death meets Strapping Young Lad and Darkane. Killer!'
ROCK HARD (D)

'Massive riffs, brutal blasts, heavy grooves and gore galore. Tension, performance and sawn off legs on the highest level!'
METAL HAMMER (D)

'Completely new facets the internationally acclaimed death metal commando unveils on its new studio effort, which is indeed a truly vicious one!'
EMP (D)

'The band’s new found diversity turns ‘Slaughter & Apparatus’ into the most variable, most accomplished and simply best album in the band’s history so far. Anno 2007, the Belgians skilfully blend murderously grinding brutality with massive grooves, catchy melodies and many refreshing ideas.'
HEAVY

'One can only take his hat off to ABORTED’s musical development. […] Their remarkable new interpretation of the legendary Carcass mounts on their fifth album in a refined and individual approach towards death/grind, that sees the technical skills increasing to the proverbial next level and presents songs that unite finesse and furious speed in one monolith of brutality.'
LEGACY (D)

DEICIDE CONFIRM FORTHCOMING DATES IN MEXICO AND COSTA RICA DESPITE CURRENT CONTROVERSY

Death metal stalwarts DEICIDE have confirmed March tour dates in Mexico and Costa Rica, despite current backlash from members of the Costa Rican churches and community surrounding the venue. Monsignor Jose Francisco Ulloa, president of the Episcopal Conference and bishop of Carthage, has openly spoken out against DEICIDE’S visit to Costa Rica and has called on the community to aid in shutting down the show.

The monsignor stated on America Radio that ' We cannot admit a group like this to be allowed in communities as these. I believe that the town has the right to reject all that. I believe that as much the municipality, as well as other communal organisations, look at the 10 of March to be united in the movement to avoid that presentation that goes by that diabolic line.'

A few locals have replied to this call with thoughtful and open-minded remarks, confirming that it should be the right of organisers to put on whatever concerts they want to despite the artists’ ideology. Unscathed, promoters confirm that the show will go on and DEICIDE will come to Costa Rica after a string of dates in Mexico. DEICIDE have also released 'Doomsday LA,' a live DVD featuring the all-new line-up and packed with bonus music videos for 'Homage for Satan' and 'Desecration.' Industrial Goth enigma Mortiis is set to release a remix album titled 'Some Kind of Heroin', reworking material from 'The Grudge', on April 16, via Earache Records.
For much of Mortiis' career, the striking visual aspect combined with his rapid musical evolution has become a subject of much urban legend over the years. And yet over a series of progressively more ambitious albums, Mortiis has morphed into a band unit that has become known for aggressive live shows and ambitious records, and has spawned two Top 50 UK singles.

In keeping with the rapidly developing nature of the music and the direction of the band, 'Some Kind of Heroin' offers diverse remix material including interpretations by a wide range of contemporaries, such as Zombie Girl, Gothminister, Implant, XP8, Mental Siege, PIG, The Kovenant, Velvet Acid Christ, Girls Under Glass, David Wallace, Kubrick, Funker Vogt, Flesh Field, Dope Stars and In the Nursery.

Mortiis states: "I’m really stoked we finally got to do a remix album and since it's been in process for quite some time now I'm happy to be able to finally release it.
I've always been fascinated with taking songs and twisting them into something different, the ability to grab the elements you like and put them into a totally different environment. The flexibility of that really appeals to me.

I think the mixes all those guys did came out really cool, many of them vastly different from what would have come out of the studio if I had done them. It's cool to see what happens when you let other people inside your head, so to speak. I think the variety of mixers and sonic realms created here will appeal to a large variety of people."

Track listing for 'Some Kind of Heroin' is as follows:

01. Underdog (Zombie Girl Remix)
02. The Grudge (Gothminister mix)
03. Twist The Knife (The Gibbering mix by Implant)
04. Broken Skin feat. Stephan Groth (Septic Wound mix by XP8)
05. The Grudge (Mental Siege Mix)
06. Gibber (PIG Remix)
07. Way too Wicked (Rape, Dope and the American Way mix by The Kovenant)
08. Gibber (Lysergic Club Mix by Velvet Acid Christ)
09. The Worst in Me (Girls Under Glass Mix)
10. The Grudge (David Wallace Remix)
11. Broken Skin feat. Stephan Groth (Funker Vogt Remix)
12. The Grudge (Emotional Heresy by Kubrick)
13. Decadent & Desperate (Therafu*k remix by Dope Stars)
14. Gibber (Gibbering Idiot)
15. Way too Wicked (Absinthium mix)
16. The Worst in Me (Extraction mix by In the Nursery)

Century Media Records Welcomes BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART

Century Media is proud to sign BLESSED BY A BROKEN HEART, self-proclaimed 'superheroes destined to save the world from nuclear annihilation with the power of metal.'

BBABH hails from Montreal, Canada and released one album, 'All’s Fair In Love And War', on Blood & Ink Records in 2004. They did a few tours of North America with The Devil Wears Prada and A Day to Remember and played to sold-out crowds in the UK with Enter Shakari. Upon returning home, they found themselves with offers from record labels shooting out of their collective arses. The Bird (drums) states:

'We have been searching for the right record label to release our next record for quite some now, and this is a match made in heaven. The force is strong with Century Media. I mean, they signed us without a singer, so they are obviously just as crazy as we are. We are also proud to announce that we have finally found a new singer. His name is Tony Gambino, and yeah, his great-uncle was Carlo Gambino (Google him), so don’t mess with us. Tony can do back-flips and breakdance better then Turbo in Electric Boogaloo. We’re psyched to have him on board.'

Click the link below to check out some new music.

BBABH will enter the studio with GGGarth in early April to record their Century Media debut, tentatively titled 'You Wanted the Best, You Got The Blessed: Greatest Hits'. Their debut movie will be going direct to DVD in 2008.

Shred Sean: shreds
The Bird: hits things
Simon Foxx: polishes the keys
Tyler Hoare: his real last name/bass
Robbie Heart: also shreds
Tony Gambino: backspins

CALLENISH CIRCLE CALLS IT QUITS

'After nearly 15 years we’ve decided to lay our precious CALLENISH CIRCLE to rest. We’ll play our last show on Saturday the 10th of March at De Azijnfabriek in Roermond, The Netherlands. This wasn't the easiest decision to make, but in the end, we all agree that CALLENISH CIRCLE has now run its course. We’ve accomplished everything that we set out to do and even more but now the time has come to move on. We’re all very proud of our latest album [Pitch.Black.Effects] and feel that now is a good time to call it a day.'

'After all those years the inspiration to keep CALLENISH CIRCLE going was slowly fading away. We always aimed to deliver the goods with the highest quality possible and we simply do not want to continue a band that can’t give the essential blood, sweat & tears anymore. We prefer to burn out on a high note now, rather than just slowly fade into obscurity. Some bands linger on for years past their expiration date but CALLENISH CIRCLE will definitely not become one of those bands.'

"Over the past 15 years, CALLENISH CIRCLE have left their mark on the worldwide metal scene with 5 albums released, toured with many great bands and played lots of great shows & festivals. It was definitely an interesting journey for all of us, and we look back at our past with absolutely no regrets, only with pride.

When we started this band in the early ‘90-ies we were just a bunch of kids who thought it would be fun to play some cover tunes of our favourite bands at the time, just think of influential bands like Death, Pestilence, (old) Paradise Lost & Bolt Thrower.

Back then we never could have imagined that, almost 15 years later, we would have released 5 full-length albums of which the last 3 released worldwide on the highly acclaimed Metal Blade Records and that we would have played over 200 shows & festivals all over the world, being our Mexican Tour 2006 one of the definite highlights in our career.'

'So many of you from all around the world have gotten into our music, and for us musicians playing in a band, that's really what it's all about. Having people from all over the world tell you that they've genuinely been moved by your music is definitely a great thing. We're very pleased that you enjoyed what we created. Those words were always an inspiration to us and we can truly walk away from CALLENISH CIRCLE with our heads held high at this point, no doubt about that.'

'But as always... all good things come to an end and we'd like to thank every one of our fans across the globe for their never ending support. You are the main reason why we stuck around for so long. Thank YOU! And ofcourse thanks to everyone else that had a role in making CALLENISH CIRCLE what it is today. You all know who you are.'

'Not much more really needs to be said. We hope to see some of you at our last show in Roermond on the 10th of March. Dutch fellow thrashers Engine of Pain will release their debut album that night and the opening slot is filled by State:Chaos (the new band of former CALLENISH CIRCLE bassplayer Rocco).'

'This will definitely become a night to remember.'

Wim, Muuk, Gav, Ron & Pat / Callenish Circle.

Witchcraft In Studio Recording Third Album & forthcoming live dates

Yes, the guys are finally back in the studio, following their very successful string of dates in the US.

No definite clues as yet to the direction, though we are reckoning that the album will bridge the gap between the garagey Doom sound of the first album , combined with the improved songwriting skills witnessed on the recent 45, ‘If Crimson Was Your Colour’.
Enigmatic frontman Magnus Pelander has also hinted at some more progressive leanings on some of the tracks, but has refused to elaborate further.

A special UK one off show will be announced shortly, followed by more US dates and a UK tour. In the meantime you can catch them on their headlining tour of Norway as well as on parts of  the European Clutch tour and at the KRAAK Festival in Belgium:

MY DYING BRIDE LINE-UP CHANGES

"MY DYING BRIDE is sorry to have to say that on January 5, 2007 bassist Adrian Jackson left the band. He has pledged his future in and has made it quite clear there is no room in his plans for MY DYING BRIDE.

We have parted in good faith and wish him luck with his new life out there. It has absolutely no effect on any of the gigs we have confirmed. We have already rehearsed his replacement to gig readiness and she is looking forward to playing for the first time in MY DYING BRIDE. More on his replacement, Lena, soon.

"Secondly we have had to replace long term stand in drummer / thunder truck / Uberlunatic John Bennet due to his work commitments. He is saddened by the fact he cannot drum for MY DYING BRIDE anymore as are we, but we understand that we all have to make a living and wish him luck too in his job.

"It's not all doom and gloom though as we have been rehearsing with excellent drummer Dan Mullins of THINE, BAL-SAGOTH and SERMON OF HYPOCRISY fame and again he too is now at gig readiness. MDB has a new fresh focused feel to it and we are looking forward to the shows with a vengeance."

TURISAS - POSTPONE LONDON SCALA SHOW

The proposed show at London’s Scala on 8th March, with Wolf, has had to be postponed - the band have issued the following statement to explain the postponement - 'Turisas are sorry to announce that due to unforeseen changes to the recording schedule for the new album, due out in May, the band have been forced to postpone their live date at the Scala, Kings Cross, London on Thursday 8th March. The gig will however be re-scheduled for a later date at the same venue. Turisas would like to extend sincere apologies to all disappointed fans and ticketholders.'

THE OCEAN - New album and US tour announced

NEW ALBUM

We are working day and night on our upcoming album which is due for a summer/fall 2007 release. Configured as a conceptual 2xCD, the album will be divided into a full-length CD of roughly 50 minutes playing time and a mini-CD of roughly 20-minutes playing time.

The mini-CD will contain 5 tracks continuing along the path of 2005's critically acclaimed "Aeolian" album, while the full-length CD will see us explore calmer, but deeper and darker waters... we will reveal more details on the album concept soon.

Drums, bass and guitars will be recorded at legendary Studio 57 in Finland with engineer/co-producer Jonas Olsson in April. Vocals and all orchestral instruments will be recorded at Oceanland in Berlin before and after that. We will keep you posted on the project. The album will be produced by THE OCEAN's Robin Staps and Jonas Olsson.

U.S. TOUR

It is finally happening. We will most probably be touring the US in July. Please don't ask if we come to Williston, North Dakota. We don't know yet and we'll keep you posted once we know more details.
