SAGA 20/20 (earMUSIC)
This album picks up from where the last album with Sadler, '10,000 Days'
left off. It is full of catchy, upbeat songs that may have a reflective lyric
but contain a positive spin. The album also includes one of the heaviest songs
they have ever recorded in 'Spin It Again'. This song has a driving bass line
Lemmy would be proud of. (Jason Ritchie) |

 |
FIREWIND Few Against Many (Century Media)
'Few Against Many' explores a broad palette of sounds and impresses with its
breathtaking playing, soaring vocals and impossible shreds. The
songs appear to be almost interrelated in terms of their pacing
and shifting moods (Pete Feenstra). |

SQUACKETT A Life Within A Day (Esoteric Antenna)
...this is rich and robust stuff that doesn’t trade on former glories. Yes,
there are nods over the shoulder to the sound that respectively trademarked two
great bands, but the focus is very much on creating something fresh,
contemporary to the current shapes and forms of the genre rather than
reformatting the past. (Peter Muir) |

SANTANA Shape Shifter (Sony Music)
If we are not now going to get a really startling, ground-heaving Santana
album you really can't beat this return to what he
does best. Glorious melodic, story-telling guitar
weaving in and out of rich orchestration. A rare and
very welcome treat especially to those who grew up
with those classic early albums in the seventies.
(David Randall) |

STOLEN EARTH A
Far Cry From Home
2012 has, until now, been a disappointing year for
rock. But Stolen Earth have put that right with the
debut album of the year. Maybe even the album of the
year. A Far Cry From Home is certainly going to be a
contender. A quite outstanding debut. (Pete
Whalley)
