Ten Questions with...

JEAN BEAUVOIR (Crown Of Thorns)

Jean Beauvoir and his band Crown of Thorns managed to keep the melodic rock flame burning throughout the 90's (every home at the bare minimum should have a copy of their debut album) and released the excellent 'Karma' album last year.

1. What are you currently up to?

I was just in Sweden to meet up with Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven and I am working on a solo album for the moment.

2. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpoints(s) of your career to date?

Probably too many to mention but let's try. My first solo deal with Virgin and Sony were high points. Crown of Thorns debut not being released in the US, a low point. Meeting so many great musicians, fans, journalists through out my career, a high point. No follow up to Voodoo X the Awakening, a low point......

3. How did the recent UK tour go?

It was a lot of fun. I think the promoter could have done a better job of letting the fans know about the shows, but nevertheless, The fans were great and it was a blast for us to be back on the road again.

4. What were your personal highlights?

Seeing familiar faces and getting a chance to rock hard again!!!!

5. The new Crown of Thorns album 'Karma', continues a long line of fine releases. What are your personal highlights on the album? How easy/difficult do you find it to come up with new song ideas for each album?

Thanks alot, my personal favorites change but for the moment, Believer, Til you had Enough, Once in my Life, My Sweet Lord. I always worry before I start. Somehow the ideas just come when they need to. I'm lucky for this reason. I just hope it continues!!!!

6. Who have been your main musical influences? Anyone you would like to work with in the future?

I'm kind of an classic rock guy. The Stones, Led Zepp.., Bad Co, Beatles. All the greats. I also was a fan of the great Motown stuff as well. I have very wide taste actually. As far as who I'd like to with, Bowie, Bryan Adams, Aerosmith and many others. There are also some very cool new bands that I would like to work with as well.

7. You also run a successful solo career in tandem with Crown of Thorns. Do you make an effort to have a distinct change in musical style between the two or does it just come out of the writing?

Crown of Thorns is a hard rock band to me so we do experiment but try to maintain our sound. With the solo records, I feel I can further to the left or right. Try anything I want. I'm actually going through this in my mind right now as I am writing my next solo record.

8. Outside of business, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

To tell you the truth, I don't have much free time. I spend most of it in the studio but when I do, I love watching films, I like riding horses, I do Martial arts, Kick Boxing and I like travelling.

9.How did the original Crown of Thorns line-up come about?

I ran into Micki and Tony Thompson several times in the past years and we always talked about doing a band. I got a solo offer from Interscope and I told them that I would prefer to make a band album. I called Paul and told him about it, he called Gene and they told me they would really like to be involved.

10. Message to your fans...

Thanks for being there for us. We'll never forget!!!
